5 Whole30 Summer Drinks + Basil Strawberry Infused Water – Refreshing drink ideas for hot summer days that are Whole30 compliant plus a quick recipe for flavorful Basil Strawberry Infused Water.
Summer is here! Well, technically, it’s always here in South Florida. The humidity has officially arrived, and it’s that time of year I’ll look for any excuse not to go outside! When I do make it out, I like to have a nice refreshing drink.
Lots of my favorite summer drinks are off-limits during Whole30, and plain water can get boring after a while. I’ve created a list of 5 of my favorite drinks to help me cool down in the summer while staying Whole30 compliant.
5 Whole30 Summer Drinks
1. LaCroix
Can you have a list of Whole30 approved drinks that doesn’t include LaCroix? They’re my go-to drink when I want something with flavor and carbonation. This canned option is easy to pack in a cooler for a trip to the beach or a picnic. They come in several flavors, and available in most stores.
2. Mineral/Carbonated Water
Like LaCroix, plain carbonated water is refreshing, and you can add your own fruits to make infused water. Try adding cucumber and pineapple {recipe coming soon}, lemon, watermelon, or a combo of lime and mint for an alcohol-free mojito.
3. HopTea
Recently we found a nonalcoholic tea made with hops at Whole Foods. Hoplark HopTea is made with only 3 natural ingredients {carbonated water, hops, and tea}. Huck really likes them because they’re nonalcoholic, but taste just like beer. I love a nice cold beer on a hot day, and this has everything beer offers without the alcohol or grain. For beer drinkers, The Really Hoppy One tastes just like an IPA. They also have green, white, and chamomile teas. {Their story about HopTea is pretty cool too}.
4. Iced Coffee
I love a cup of hot black coffee in the morning but find it hard to drink a hot coffee when it’s 100 degrees outside. For a unique Whole30 option, try black coffee, or cold brew poured over almond milk ice cubes {freeze-compliant almond milk in an ice tray}. If ordering an iced coffee with “milk” out, make sure to ask about the ingredients. Coffee shops may use sweetened nut milk.
5. Infused water
Adding ingredients to plain water is a simple way to add flavor. I like to keep a jug in the refrigerator with different flavors. It adds a subtle hint of flavor and creates an excellent refreshing taste. Perfect for a hot summer day! I also enjoy fruit-infused water after a workout. I’ve been working out in our garage since all the gyms are closed, and it’s a great treat to help cool down. Below is a “recipe” for Basil Strawberry Infused Water, but you can experiment with lots of fruits or herbs to create your own.
Basil Strawberry Infused Water
Infusing water is super simple and doesn’t require any extra equipment or bottles. You can purchase a water bottle or jug with an infuser attachment, but a simple mason jar or pitcher will work. I keep a large mason jar of flavored water in my refrigerator, so it’s available anytime. Depending on the fruit that’s added, I’ll add more water to the fruit throughout the day if needed. Fruits like berries start to turn white if left in the water too long, but mint, basil, cucumber, pineapple, and citrus hold up well and last for a few days.
How to Make Basil Strawberry Infused Water
Wash the basil and strawberries and place them in a jar. Fill the jar with water and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Serve cold with ice if desired. The strawberries will give the water a pretty pink color 😊
Variations
Any combination of fruit and herbs would work well for infused or flavored water. It’s easy to experiment with different flavors like Pineapple Cucumber Infused Water or see what you prefer.
