Dairy-Free Tzatziki Sauce – This Whole30 version is dairy-free and makes an excellent dressing for salad or dip for veggies. Now you can enjoy the creamy flavors of Tzatziki sauce without the dairy.
We have a local Mediterranean restaurant that has a great souvlaki gyro. It comes with grilled chicken, fries, tzatziki sauce, and pita bread - 3 of 4 foods I try to only eat occasionally. I wanted to try to recreate the flavors of that souvlaki at home in a healthier version. Today, I’m starting with the Tzatziki Sauce!
What is Tzatziki Sauce
Tzatziki sauce is a yogurt-based sauce made with diced cucumbers, garlic, lemon juice, herbs, and salt. It’s a common condiment on gyros or as a dip for veggies.
This tzatziki sauce is not traditional as it does not include yogurt, but it has all the same flavors you’d expect in a classic sauce.
How to make Dairy-Free Tzatziki Sauce
In place of the yogurt, this recipe uses mayo and almond milk. Coconut milk can be used instead of almond milk if you prefer.
Other ingredients include:
- English Cucumbers finely diced. No need to remove the seeds and peel.
- Dried or fresh Dill and Parsley - if using fresh herbs, finely chop the herbs and double the amount.
- Lemon Juice
- Garlic Powder
- Fresh ground Black Pepper
- Salt to taste
How to Use
Tzatziki can be used as a dip for veggies or warmed pita bread, a dressing for salad, or a condiment on a gyro or Greek Burger. I like to use it as a dip for my Curry Chicken Wings!
If using this recipe as a salad dressing, add an extra tablespoon of almond milk to thin the sauce.
Storage and Make-Ahead
The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for 4-5 days - if it lasts that long 🙂
Recipes to Serve with the Tzatziki Sauce
This recipe would make an excellent sauce for the Mediterranean Grilled Salmon or a dip for the Air Fryer Curry Chicken Wings, Air Fryer Fried Okra, or Garlic Naan Bread.
