Air Fryer Curry Chicken Wings – Extra crispy and flavorful, these wings have all the curry flavor you love. Slightly spicy and dipped in a creamy dairy-free tzatziki sauce. Oven cooking instructions included.
In my Dairy-Free Tzatziki Sauce recipe, I talked about our favorite Mediterranean restaurant with the delicious souvlaki. This recipe is part two of my recreation of that delicious wrap without the dairy and bread.
The chicken has a great grilled flavor and almost taste like curry chicken. I honestly have no idea what they’re using to marinate their chicken, but this is my take. I really like these spicy, crispy wings dipped in the cool, creamy tzatziki sauce.
Chicken Wings
My local grocery store only sells the whole wing - drumette, flat, and tip. I’m too lazy to separate them into smaller pieces and honestly prefer the entire wing. If you want your wings separated and can’t find them, you can cut along the joint on both sides of the flat with a sharp knife. The sharp knife helps cut through the bone.
Air Fryer vs. Oven
I know a lot of people do not have or want an air fryer. I, personally, didn’t want one either. My husband came out of a home inspection one day and said he was buying an air fryer. The homeowners were using one to make chicken, and he insisted we had to have one. I didn’t want another appliance in our house. Especially one that size. He ordered it, and I’ve been in love ever since. You do not have to pre-heat the oven, it cooks much faster, and the food comes out crispier. But it’s not always the best option for everyone. I’ve listed a few pros and cons below.
Air Fryer Pros and Cons: The air fryer crisp the wing much faster and better than the oven in almost half the time. I tested this recipe several times in each to compare. For this recipe, the entire wing cooked in 20 minutes, and the skin was far crispier.
There is one con. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you can only cook a few wings at a time. Yes, the cooking time is less, but you may have to cook several batches if making several wings. For my husband and me, one batch is enough for dinner.
Oven Pros and Cons: The whole wing in the oven takes 35-40 minutes and may need a minute or two under the broiler to crisp the skin a little extra. If you’re cooking for just a couple of people, that’s double the time for the same amount of food.
The biggest pro for me with using an oven is you’re able to cook more wings at once. If I made this recipe for a football party, I’d use the oven. And, you can always use the broiler to get that extra crispiness {just do not walk away! They will burn in no time}.
If you do not have an air fryer, that’s okay. This recipe is excellent with or without it. It’s all about personal preference and using what you have.
Ingredients for the Curry Chicken Wings
Ingredients are super simple. I added red chili powder to my wings to increase the heat. Add more or less depending on your taste.
- Olive Oil
- Curry Powder
- Chili Powder – Optional
- Chicken Wings
- Tzatziki Sauce – Optional but recommended
To make the chicken wings, remove the wings from the package and pat dry with a paper towel to remove moisture. Place the chicken in a large bowl and lightly coat in olive oil. Next, sprinkle on the curry and chili powder to evenly coat all sides.
Place wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, and cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees. Flip halfway through the cooking process for even cooking.
Serve the cooked wings right away with the creamy dairy-free tzatziki sauce.
See the recipe card below for oven directions!
