Crispy and tender, air fryer brussels sprouts make a great appetizer or side dish. A healthier option than deep-fried, the air fryer helps create crispy brussels sprouts in less time.
I'm not a fan of kitchen gadgets, so the thought of buying an air fryer made no sense to me. I already had an oven. Why would I need something else that takes up room in my kitchen? My husband insisted we buy one after seeing someone make chicken - impulse Amazon purchase. I wasn't too happy about the purchase, to begin with, but now, it's my favorite appliance! From everything from quick veggies like fried okra to hard boil eggs, we use it daily.
How to Prep Brussels Sprouts
Baby cabbage, as my dad calls them, are found in two forms, loose or still on a stalk. At all my local grocery stores, they come loose. When I arrive home from the store, I wash and dry the sprouts so they're ready to go.
If you find a full stalk, the sprouts can be easily removed by twisting and pulling. Trim and remove the tough stem and outside leaves if needed. Brussels sprouts can be prepared whole, sliced in half, or shredded. For an appetizer, cut in half for easy dipping.
How to Cook Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer
With just a few ingredients, these air fryer brussels sprouts come together in less than 15 minutes. Ingredients include:
- Brussels Sprouts
- Oil {Extra virgin olive oil, melted coconut oil, or avocado will work}
- Seasoning {Try making with simple salt and pepper or get creative with Cajun, Chili, or any other spicy blend I have in the cabinet}
- Dipping Sauce -Optional {My favorite dip is ranch!}
To start, prep the brussels sprouts by removing the stem and slicing them in half. Place in a large bowl, and lightly coat with oil and seasoning.
Place in the air fryer basket and cook at 400 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Toss the veggies halfway through to cook evenly. Continue cooking until the desired crispiness. I prefer them extra crispy {almost burnt}.
Remove and serve on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce.
